CRUK Flame of Hope Awards 2012 - Dawn Green awarded a commendation as Ambassador of the year!

(April 11, 2012)

Dawn Green received the follow email this afternoon and we are so excited we just had to share it with you all!

Dear Dawn,

I’m really pleased to let you know that you have been recognised with a ‘special commendation’ for your fantastic support of Cancer Research UK in our 2012 volunteering awards, Flame of Hope.

We are sending this attached letter to you in the post too, but I wanted to send it to you as soon as I was allowed to, as it’s such fantastic news! Please see the letter for more details, but for a bit of context:

The Flame of Hope awards are our most prestigious Volunteering awards and they have been running since 2003– since then Cancer Research UK has presented over 400 awards to reward our exceptional volunteers who give us so much time and energy to further our cause. It used to be the case that there would normally be one main winner for each of the 12 main categories (categories include ‘Ambassador of the year’,‘Event volunteer if the year’, ‘Shop of the year’ etc.), but since 2011 we’ve made some important changes to also award ‘Special Commendations’ under each of these categories, to recognise even more of our brilliant and worthy volunteers. There are four to five lucky people who normally get special commendations under each category, and I’m pleased to say that you’re one of our special commendations!

The category of ‘Ambassador of the year’ is to recognise volunteers who are outstanding advocates or ambassadors of the charity and have shown exceptional commitment and dedication through:

·Acting as an ambassador for the charity, showing dedication to raising awareness of cancer and the work of the charity

·Being an inspiring spokesperson and accurate communicator of information about the charity

·Demonstrating enthusiasm, passion and commitment to the charity

People can be nominated for this award for having done a whole range of things as an advocate for the charity, from campaigning to media and brand promotion with our patient liaison team.

You were nominated for your fantastic work both with the Cancer Campaigns team and the Patient Liaison team, and I hope this confirms how much both of our teams value you as one of our most exceptional volunteers.
