An MBE is a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire and is awarded by the Queen to an individual for outstanding service to the community or local ‘hands-on’ service. You can’t nominate yourself, you must be nominated by someone else. Nominations are judged by an honours committee for the specific type of work you have been nominated. The process takes between 12 and 24 months to complete.

pseudomyxoma_survivor_salena_300So you see, it really is an honour to be included in the New Year’s Honours List having been awarded an MBE and as such Amanda, Angela, Lyn and Susan would like you to join us in congratulating Salena in having been awarded an MBE for her services to children’s welfare.

Salena brings to Pseudomyxoma Survivor a raft of skills from having worked in the non-profit and welfare services for a number of years. As well as that, she perfectly understands the needs of those affected by PMP, having lost her brother Colin to the disease in 2003. You can read an interview with Salena on the Family fund’s blog.
