Professor Norman Carr

Norman John Carr was Director of Research and Consultant Histopathologist at the Peritoneal Malignancy Institute, Basingstoke, a Visiting Fellow at the University of Southampton, and an Honorary Consultant Histopathologist at University Hospital Southampton, UK. He was also a Clinical Professor at the University of Wollongong, Australia, where he was the inaugural Professor of Anatomical Pathology from 2006 to 2009. He graduated from St George’s, University of London, UK, in 1983.

A gastrointestinal pathologist, his special interest is the pathology of the appendix and pseudomyxoma peritonei. He has published over 70 papers in the peer-reviewed literature and written two textbooks for undergraduate medical students as well as several book chapters. He contributed to the 3rd and 4th editions of the World Health Organization Classification of Tumours of the Digestive System and is presently working on the 5th edition.

He was a member of the European Network on Pseudomyxoma Peritonei which is part of the European Cooperation in Science and Technology. As a member of the UICC TNM Expert Panel on Gastrointestinal Cancer, he reviewed publications potentially relevant to TNM staging.
