The PERITONEAL SURFACE ONCOLOGY GROUP INTERNATIONAL conference, now in its 11th year, is almost upon us. I can’t quite believe it’s been two years since we attended the one in Washington DC!

PSOGI is a non-profit organisation which aims to promote research, education, and innovations in patient care regarding peritoneal metastases. Arguably the largest and most important conference in our calendar.

Me and Dr Suagbaker at PSOGI 2016 in Washington DC

Renowned surgeon Dr Paul H Sugarbaker organises and attends this event and no doubt will have his groupies following him around, me included, wishing for a photograph with him. Yet again, I will probably have to ask Angela to airbrush out my belly and double chins if I do successfully manage a photograph….

To be in a room with at least 700 people who are familiar with and treating this disease is truly humbling. This time around I am delighted to say that we will have a desk in the exhibition area and it will be a great opportunity to explain to others the important work we do here at Pseudomyxoma Survivor. Chatting with other patients and organisations from around the world is an added bonus and always a great learning experience for me.

In Washington DC, for example, I loved that ACPMP (a nonprofit dedicated to funding research into appendix cancer and PMP) sponsored places for students to attend the conference. As a former HR and Development Manager, I recognise the importance of supporting the next generation of surgeons and it’s great that ACPMP could do that in this way.

The meeting will take place in the beautiful art deco building of the “Maison de la Chimie” in the centre of Paris, near the Eiffel Tower, from the 9th to 11th September 2018.

Looking forward to seeing some familiar faces and meeting some new ones.

Susan
