Pseudomyxoma Survivor support World Cancer DayFebruary 4th marks World Cancer Day, the one day in the year when the world comes together to raise awareness of cancer and also to encourage its prevention, detection and treatment. This World Cancer Day 2023, we recognise the power of working together and this year’s theme is “Unite to Fight“, highlighting the importance of working together to address the global cancer burden.

We know that every single one of us has the ability to make a difference, large or small, and that together we can make real progress in reducing the global impact of cancer.

On 4 February, we call on you, whoever and wherever you are, to play your part in creating a cancer-free world. By working together, we can improve cancer prevention, early detection, treatment, and support for patients and survivors. This includes efforts to address cancer risk factors such as tobacco use, unhealthy diets, physical inactivity, and environmental exposures.

February, in general, is the time to turn the spotlight on some of the rarer cancers such as pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP) as we approach Rare Disease Day at the end of the month. Diseases that rarely get media attention in the way that perhaps other cancers do. When you think that the number diagnosed each year may be 3 or 4 per million each year compared to bowel cancer at around 650 per million each year and breast cancer with 600 per million each year, it is easy to see what a hard job we all have to raise awareness and to encourage the prevention of PMP and work to improve detection and treatment.

How can you help?

Pseudomyxoma Survivor is dedicated to raising awareness and to improving detection of PMP, appendix cancer and other peritoneal surface malignancies and is doing so, one story at a time. If you want to share yours, please do get in touch with us.
