This post is dedicated to Liam’s memory. RIP.
In March 2014, Liam received a diagnosis of pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP), a type of appendix cancer that is rare. By June of that year, Liam had already begun to appreciate living ‘in the moment,’ relying on his Zen Buddhist faith to find beauty in the midst of death. Liam also wrote about his desire to have the legal right to a dignified end.
Liam’s story is both heartbreaking and inspiring. It’s difficult to imagine receiving a diagnosis of a rare and life-threatening illness like PMP, but Liam’s ability to find beauty in the present moment is a powerful reminder to cherish every day. His desire for a dignified end highlights the importance of end-of-life planning and the need for individuals to have control over their own medical care. Liam’s story is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and a reminder to all of us to live each day to the fullest.
